Dr Diva Amon

Diva is a 2020 National Geographic Emerging Explorer and has appeared in and hosted major international television productions. Diva is known for her work on National Geographic’s Welcome to Earth, serving as the deep-sea expert accompanying Will Smith into one of the planet’s most extreme ocean environments. Most recently, Diva has hosted National Geographic’s six-part series Shark Attack 360, where she and a team of experts investigated why shark encounters occur, combining field research, cutting-edge data analysis, and immersive virtual-reality storytelling.

She has participated in scientific expeditions across the globe, from Antarctica to the deepest trenches of the ocean, and regularly ventures beneath the surface in submersibles—making her one of the few scientists to both conduct deep-sea research and experience these environments firsthand. This lived experience gives her storytelling an authenticity that resonates with audiences well beyond science.

A sought-after speaker, Diva delivers keynote talks and panel contributions for conferences, universities, festivals, companies, and intergovernmental bodies such as the United Nations. Her talks are always grounded in rigorous science and delivered with clarity, warmth, and humour.

Diva is also the Co-Founder of SpeSeas, a non-profit organisation working to expand marine science, education, and advocacy in the Caribbean. Passionate about representation and access, she uses media and public platforms to challenge who is seen as an explorer or scientist—and to inspire broader, more diverse engagement with the ocean.
